"For as long as I can remember I have always been fascinated with religious icons. I believe this stems from my strict catholic upbringing. I was forced to attend mass each Sunday until my eighteenth birthday. During these dogmatic rituals my mind would wander as I was basically hypnotized by the vast sacred art and iconography that surrounded me in the church.
Throughout this time I felt as though I was being brainwashed and always rejected their teachings. At that time I was very bitter about this, yet now I feel grateful for being so heavily exposed to all of these mystic symbols.
Religion is something that confuses me, part of me feels that I can connect with it but at the same time, I am disconnected from myself. This body of work is simply a self exploration further into my roots and the beliefs of others."
